Chapter 1

Piper really wanted to hammer in the fact that everything is for Gods glory. When I first realized that this was mainly what the first chapter was about, I thought to myself "duh". However, after he started to break this down from several different angles my mood started to change. I started to realize that even though I already know that everything is for Gods glory, I don't always live my life like I know this fact. My favorite part of this chapter was when Piper brought out the biblical texts to show God's zeal for His own glory. He explained how this is possible so it was easy to understand. After reading the first chapter I couldn't agree more that this was the perfect place to set the table for a book on missions. Remember, "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him".

Comments:
Along the strain of God's glory, I think the best part of ch. 1 was connecting God's glory with God's mercy, and how in mercy God is glorified. The fact that Piper doesn't have to give us endless examples of missionary sob stories (not that their bad) tells you this is not your usual missions book.
